Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect in the first appointment?

The first appointment is an opportunity to talk about what brought you to therapy and what you're hoping for. Think of it as a "getting to know you" session where we begin to understand your concerns and goals.

When working with couples, we typically begin with a joint session, followed by individual meetings with each partner. This process is explained duirng the initial appointment and helps ensure that each person feels heard, supported, and respected.

Do you accept insurance?

I am an out-of-network provider and do not accept insurance directly.

Do you provide superbills?

I provide superbills for individual therapy, which some clients choose to submit to their insurance for possible out-of-network reimbursement.

Couples therapy is considered a relational service and is not typically covered by insurance. For this reason, I do not provide superbills for couples therapy.

Why isn't couples therapy covered by insurance?

Insurance companies generally require a mental health diagnosis for reimbursement and do not cover treatment focused on the relationship itself. My work with couples centers on relational patterns, emotional connection, and communication rather than on treating a diagnosed condition.

Can you help me check my out-of-network benefits?

While I don't interact directly with insurance companies, I'm happy to answer general questions and can provide documentation for individual therapy if you choose to pursue reimbursement through your plan.

What if I'm not sure which service is right for me?

If you're unsure whether individual or couples therapy is the best fit, we can discuss this during a brief consultation and decide together what makes the most sense for your goals.

Does you offer in person appointments?

I offer telehealth sessions to clients in New York and North Carolina.

In person couples therapy is available in East Asheville.

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

When you schedule an initial consultation, you'll receive a complimentary 20 minute call to discuss your needs and determine whether therapy feels like a good fit.
